Both the Innovative Practice Projects and the Scientific Projects are not just generating results but
are also gradually building up extensive body of knowledge and experience on those
results have been achieved. This involves dealing with cultural and other
differences, risks and new problems, etc.
The TransForum Knowledge
Programme is aimed at learning from all the accumulated knowledge and
experience and converting this into transferable forms. The learning takes
place at three levels: 1) within projects, 2) between projects, and 3) for all
the projects.
The Knowledge Programme is aimed at organising reflection and learning at these
three levels with a view to identifying the competencies and skills needed for
the realisation of innovations. Those competencies and skills are worked out in
more detail in the form of educational facilities and training courses.
Within the projects the Knowledge Programme has led to the fact that
reflection and documentation concerning project management and progress have
now become standard practice. These activities turn out to generate
considerable information going beyond the project itself. The sum of the
experience has led to the identification of network management in a relatively
complex partnership arrangement among the ‘KOMBI' partners (i.e. knowledge
institutes, government agencies, NGOs, the private sector and intermediaries) as
TransForum's principal added value in the various projects. Between the projects the focus is primarily on the development of
Communities of Practice and the role of TransForum staff in these. A certain
amount of hands-on experience has already been gained in this area in the
Practice Projects. Similar communities are being set up for the Scientific
Programme. For all projects combined, an overarching project (PIZZA) combined with
a number of other BSIK research programmes has produced information on how we
are dealing with the transition challenge. This has now generated a framework from
which a yardstick can be derived for measuring the effectiveness of TransForum's
practice projects in the transition process.
