During 2005-2010, TransForum encouraged the necessary sustainable development of Dutch agriculture by linking it to its metropolitan environment. We did this by using our unique combination of knowledge, networking and resources. We helped to create deeply committed coalitions of knowledge institutes, entrepreneurs, governments and societal organisations. Together we have developed innovative forms of economic activity that are profitable, respect the environment and improve human and animal welfare. Examples of these innovations can be found here.
|The essence of metropolitan agriculture is that the urbanised environment offers great opportunities for the more sustainable development of agriculture. Conversely, agriculture is indispensable for the more sustainable development of urban areas. Through interaction between agriculture and its metropolitan environment new connections are generated. These act as a source of inspiration for innovation, are profitable, respect the environment and improve the welfare of both human beings and animals.|
